Xiang's research at California Institute of Technology focuses on design, develop and demonstrate electrochemical and photoelectrochemical (PEC) devices and integrated components in solar fuels applications. A common research theme in Xiang' team is combining multi-physics simulation with materials integration and rapid device prototyping to realize novel structures and devices for sustainable generation of fuels from sunlight and for negative CO2 emission technologies. Xiang's research interests include design and fabrication of high efficiency solar-fuel prototypes, opto-electronic-catalytic modeling of advanced micro/nanostructured photoelectrochemical systems and multi-ion transport modeling in solution and polymer electrolytes. Xiang's current research projects include CO2 capture from dilute sources via electrochemical approaches, catalytic CO2 conversion, sunlight driven H2 generation and benchmarking advanced hydrogen production systems.
